SMP Hairline

Understanding Your SMP Hairline Design

Scalp Micropigmentation is one of the most effective solutions for a receding hairline. The hairline is the single most important part of the entire treatment — its shape can dramatically change how young, balanced, and natural you look.

We can create virtually any style you want: high, mid, or low placement, straight, rounded, triangular, U-shaped, or widow’s peak. If you’re unsure, we’ll design the ideal hairline for your face and age, then refine it across sessions until it’s completely undetectable.

Why the Hairline Is the Most Important Part of SMP

A well-designed hairline can make you look years younger and restore natural facial harmony. A poorly designed one can look fake or too aggressive. That’s why hairline planning is the foundation of every SMP treatment we do — it’s the difference between “good” and “nobody will ever know.”

How To Choose the Right Hairline for Your Face

The best hairline matches your head shape, age, and personal style. You’re welcome to bring reference photos, sketch test hairlines with a makeup pencil, or let us guide you through the options. We’ll test multiple shapes in your consultation until it feels exactly right.

Be a Smart Client

  • Do a little homework
  • Draw mock hairlines and take photos from every angle
  • Save or print reference images you love (and hate)

Things to Consider When Creating a Hairline

  • Restoration of your original hairline
  • Faded, soft or broken edges
  • Defined, but mature/receded
  • Broken & jagged (most natural)
  • Sharper, more aggressive styles
  • Age-appropriate balance

Guidelines to Consider

Men with darker skin tones often look best with sharper, straighter, more defined hairlines. Faded or broken styles can still work, but on darker complexions the contrast is lower, which may cause them to appear softer or fade sooner over time. We’ll always be honest and upfront about what will look strongest and last longest for your skin tone.

HAIRLINE TYPES

HARD (straight)

Bold. Structured. Yourthful. The hard straight hairline creates a sharp, defined frame.

The center point and top temple point are in line with each other.

Has 70-degree angular sides.

Matching temple points to ensure symmetry from the “birds-eye view.”

NATURAL (slightly receded)

This natural-fitting hairline is the most common style and adapts well to many ages and skin types.

The line curves outward and up into a slightly lower temple point.

Can have varying degrees of recession.

Typically includes a slight curve or arch from the center point of the hairline.

Matching temple points to ensure symmetry from the “birds-eye view.”

CONSERVATIVE (round)

This hairline is ideal for older clients who want an age-appropriate look. It also suits rounder head shapes or larger heads.

The line curves outward to a slightly higher temple point.

The profile more rounded at temples.

Can have varying degrees of recession.

Matching temple points to ensure symmetry from the “birds-eye view.”
