Have Questions? You're in the Right Place
1 Do I need to take time off of work?
No. SMP does not require downtime. The scalp will have a slight redness for 1–3 days after the procedure, but it subsides quickly.
Answer
2 Does it hurt?
SMP hurts much less than getting a regular tattoo. Clients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Most feel a slight tingling sensation, but focus on the benefits rather than the experience.
Answer
3 How many treatments will I need?
Clients should expect between 2–4 sessions, usually spaced 7 to 30 days apart. The number depends on hair loss level, scarring, density preference, and goals. Learn more about the SMP Process and how sessions are planned.
Answer
4How long is the recovery?
You can expect redness and slight swelling that lasts between 24–48 hours after your scalp micropigmentation procedure.
Answer
5When can I wash my hair?
Answer
6Will it look real?
Yes. Most people, including family, cannot tell the difference from natural follicles and SMP follicles when the procedure is done correctly.
Answer
7Can Scalp Micropigmentation hide scars on my scalp?
Yes. SMP is an excellent solution to conceal scars from trauma or hair transplants. By replicating and blending tiny hair follicles into the scar area, the scar becomes much harder to notice and is often completely hidden.
Answer
8What if I have thinning hair?
For thinning or mildly diffused hair loss, SMP increases the illusion of density by reducing scalp contrast, creating the appearance of thicker, fuller hair.
Answer
9What kind of hairline will I have?
Your hairline design should consider head shape, age, and personal preference. Together, we will design a hairline that suits you. You can also research styles online, and we have a book of hairline styles available.
Answer
10Can I wear a hat after treatment?
Yes. The scalp may have a slight redness for 1–3 days. You can wear a clean, loose-fitting hat, but remove it every 30 minutes to allow the skin to breathe.
Answer
11My job requires physical labor. Will sweating interfere with my healing?
Avoid sweating for at least 5 days. After that, light sweating is okay, but avoid heavy sweating until after day 7.
Answer
12When can I go in the pool, beach, sauna, or steam room after my SMP?
After 30 days. Avoid chlorinated pools, saunas, steam rooms, and tanning beds during treatment, and for 30 days after your final session.
Answer
13When can I go into direct sunlight without sunscreen?
You should always wear sunscreen. SPF 30+ protects the ink. UV rays can lighten SMP pigments over months or years if sunscreen is not used consistently.
Answer
14How long do the results last?
Results vary by individual. On average, color strength lasts 3+ years. Immune response, UV exposure, and skin condition affect longevity.
Answer
15Can the treatment change colors?
No. The SMP ink will not change colors, but it will fade over time. Touch– ups may be needed to restore color.
Answer
16Can I tan before my SMP procedure?
No. Tanning toughens the skin and makes ink absorption more difficult. It also prevents us from accurately matching your natural skin tone and hair color.
Answer
17What equipment is used for SMP?
SMP requires specialized equipment designed for micro needles and precise ink implantation to replicate natural follicles.
Answer
18Can SMP work on all skin colors?
Yes. SMP works on all skin tones, including Caucasian, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Pacific Islander.
Answer
19Can you have the treatment if you have gray hair?
Yes. We create a lighter ink dilution to blend naturally with gray hair. We use a grayscale ink that can be adjusted to match lighter hair tones.
Answer
20Will this treatment work for women?
Yes. Women’s SMP adds density by creating natural-looking follicles on the scalp, making thin hair look fuller and thicker. Results are visible after the first session.

Answer
25Can I get an infection?
Any skin puncture carries a small risk. Swelling is normal, but excessive swelling, redness, drainage, or pain radiating beyond the tattoo site may indicate infection.
Answer
26Is SMP reversible?
Yes. SMP ink is placed more superficially and can be removed with a Q-switched laser. Multiple sessions may be required.
Answer
27What is the patch test?
A patch checks for allergies. A small dot of ink is placed behind the ear. You should watch for redness, rash, or swelling. Patch test can also be used to test color. Several micro-dots on the scalp show how ink will heal.
Answer
28Will I need the consent of parents or guardian if I am under the age of 18?
